Soft Light in Her Eyes

Written with love & care by Drew Henry

She was always cool

She did her thing

I didn’t mind

More than you could say about a lot of people

But she didn’t get caught up this way or that

Sometimes life has a way of wrecking us

But if something broke down along the way

She’d smile & laugh her little laugh

And pick up the pieces

Sometimes things got deep

But she’d stay climbing her way out

Acceptance of life how it comes

Not anything more or anything less

She worked as a barista at the local coffee shop

And smoked cigarettes on her break

She liked to go to this one place for flowers

She’d buy herself some & perk up

Lighthearted soul & soft light in her eyes

Wearing flowy dresses & skirts

Hair down or up, she always looked cute

Boys liked her the way she was

And she had lots of girlfriends

The way she amicably approached things

Open to whatever the universe threw her way

Nothing more, nothing less

Grounded in some earthly truth or understanding

Like a rose bud without thorns

A succulent that could practically live forever

She loved love & always found a way

Gracefully navigating little detours

And finding things usually ended up alright
