Back to the Future

Written with love & care by Drew Henry

The future is now

Find your place in the scheme of it all

Even when your car breaks down

Even when you break down

Shameless motherfucker

i’m jus a stupid deadbeat gutter rat

A fucker in a trucker hat

Society moving backwards all of the time

And we don’t even notice it

Music dialed in, medicine on call

Sin brought about the fall? Maybe…

Phones are a means to an end

We are products of our environment

Outdoors calling & internal combustion

Smoke a cigarette & read a little Bukowski

Because they’ll never ever get it right

Beat the system or escape it

Traffic piling up

Sex workers still making their money

Bartenders still calling the shots

Drugs hit quick when you need them to

Girl’s out the door before you know it

Old heads playing old card games & dominoes

Once a hoe, forever a hoe, all alright though

Late night show & a glass of wine

Kentucky bourbon, scotch & moonshine

Smoke a little, give up the charades

Little back alley fights pave a way

Find peace in a soliloquy

Bird flutters away from it all

And you’re nothing except a bad withdrawal

The future is now

Futile media landscapes

People still tuning in

Maybe the best way out is in

Ego is not your enemy & pride is not your friend

Come up on nothing

Glow in the dark

Nothing was ever that bad

Nothing was all that noteworthy

The future is now

And we don’t even notice it

Worldwide web

Slow down a little

Wake up, create, absorb, go to bed

The future is now

And nothing’s changed
