Immortal Essence

Written with love & care by Drew Henry

[poetry]

think i need 20 more tattoos

think i need to join a cult

bodhisattva impermanence

corner store delinquency

one night stands

ripped vans

soul warmth

iced out veins

wounds tended to

smokes & sips

smooth skin

fading away

dipping out

was never really here to begin with

sloshing tide, subtle mood

soft tune, slow brood

hell’s angels

boredom in purgatory

afterlife infamy

glints off the water

light reflects

pondered reflection

gentle affection

cure to affliction

reality vs. fiction

back on my bullshit

eternal vision

somber remedy

never wanted

to be anything more

than a failed artist

crying in the club

long lost love

spark the dub

it’s all over

soon enough

[prose]

my whole life, i’ve been drawn to cafés & the blackest of coffees. i’ve had my headphones in. i was fully engaged in some book. i’ve smoked on every street corner. never cared too much about chit chat or this or that. jus wanted to leave some indelible mark. the dogs have all been petted. the kitten never leaves the house & purrs constantly. nature does it’s thing. the birds & bees do theirs.

been working on an ending of some sort. jus ever wanted to get high & read my own shit & listen to my own shit. there’s nothing more to create. i sit up in Heaven. the grind was bliss at times, Hell at others. i’m reading again. i’m smoking again. i’m sipping coffee slowly again. listening to music again… what’s new? nothing’s ever new. jus getting by on the ecstasies of thought & sound. i liked the piece she wrote. i live a life i would’ve died for a year or two ago. so muddled in words & desires. why crave anything? always seek Nirvana.

i throw on a comfy fit & realize this is the end. this is also the beginning. café chilling. music vibing. book absorbing. vaping. hitting a drag off a cig. we oftentimes complicate life. i found meaning in God, music & poetry. always secure the bag. life is fleeting so water your plants. some waiting room.

moths chew. iced sips in summer. warm sips in winter. she talks to angels. i emulate the Lord. friendly neighborhood. my mind wanders. i take a trip to the moon every night. sink. swim. sink. swim. my muse drifted up to the sky. wonder a little bit about death & whether my creative pieces follow with me into death & the afterlife.

drugs in paradise. still need to take my pills. solace in knowing i summited so many peaks in life & survived all the low valleys. she summons the Holy Spirit to guide her through benevolence. books sit on the shelf waiting to be read. grey overcast skies & the sun peaks in. watching a cool show or movie. feeling drained & full at the same time. girls on call showing the boys a good time.

money passes back & forth. jus here for the ride. got to smoke & sip on something. music plays on a loop. life shit figured out. and i’m jus a retired drug addict & retired artist. shit comes in waves. i know a place we could go to get high & get away.

find me at cafés, corner stores & record stores. music is medicine & wisdom the cure. the girls stay cute & could do whatever the hell they want. love yourself & find comfort in self awareness. but note that pride kills & so does self consciousness.

forever online. forever offline. i’m used to it. i’m used to everything. drugs all by my lonely. bed rotting. well… really, couch rotting. sometimes riding. sometimes dying. good coffee. dope smoke. i died years & years ago. so i’m jus going to bask in some Heaven spot, some angelic space. nobody could kill the imminent high.

i’m all the way up, baby. i’m all the way up.
